Primordial Trilogy and Diving African Masks : 

Notes on the Origin of the Projects

This text does not explain the work. It traces some of its origins.

The development presented in the Primary Energy page follows the internal structure of the trilogy, moving from Galaxies to Mass & Energy and finally to Defrost. It is a coherent visual sequence, but it is not the way the work actually came into being.

The origin was more intuitive than chronological.

In 2022, confronted with the growing awareness of climate change, I began photographing flowers enclosed in ice. That body of work, first presented as Ice & Ikebana and later renamed "Defrost", explored the fragile threshold between permanence and transformation. At the time, I believed I was responding to a specific environmental concern: 

Only later did I realise that those frozen flowers were leading me somewhere else.

While continuing Defrost, new images unexpectedly appeared. Water flowing over stones suggested distant galaxies. Mineral surfaces began to resemble cosmic structures:  

At almost the same time, I photographed what would later become "Diving African Masks".

The masks were not found: they appeared. 

Looking back today, I recognise that these projects were never separate investigations. They emerged from the same persistent intuition, gradually revealing different aspects of a single question.

My earlier work explored the invisible energies circulating between people.

The Primordial Trilogy expands that same inquiry beyond the human sphere, towards the elemental relationships connecting energy, matter, life and perception.

Photography does not explain the world. It reveals relationships that become visible only through the image.
